Interview With Brother John – 100th Post!

Thank you for your support of “Bad Golf Guy” over the past two years.  Your kindness and continued reaction to our nonsense keeps us motivated! Celebrating our 100th post, we decided to run a short series of brief interviews with my golfing cronies; John, Joe and Dave.  John, my only sibling, who recently retired from a successful business career in the Chicago area, is an avid golfer, a really good dude and a great Brother!  Our recent move to Florida means that John and I will live in the ... continue reading...

Halflistic

Well, it is the beginning of August and it is time to share month two’s (July Results) results, documenting my “holistic” approach (aerobic activity, weight training, practice, play, diet, etc.), to improve my overall golfing experience (see Committed and I Should Be Committed). Before we get to the numbers, let me first say that I am an idiot and this little experiment was the most lamebrain, numbskull, cockamamie idea I have had in quite some time…and that’s sayin’ something!  Having retired ... continue reading...

Like a Cheap Suit – Results from the Member-Guest

Last week, we shared the story of my re-engagement of competitive/member-guest events (“My Nemesis Revisited”), after a year and a half hiatus.  Today’s post highlights the results of our efforts. Starting on the 604 yard, par 5, 8th hole, in our final/fifth nine-hole “best-ball” match of the weekend, playing against our Flight’s second place team, I confidently approached the tee box, having parred the 8th hole in the practice round and again in our first match.  I placed the ball on the tee, ... continue reading...

My Nemesis Revisited

In March of 2018 we posted an article, My Nemesis, the story of my abysmal performances in Member-Guest tournaments.  Performances so pathetic that I placed a temporary hold on accepting any and all invitations requiring some level of competition. After a year and a half hiatus, I am back on my horse at the 52nd Naperville Country Club Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.   The Invitational is a first class, three-day Member-Guest event with twelve Flights and seventy-two, two man teams.  ... continue reading...

It’s a Miracle

I have not been officially diagnosed with anal retentive disorder however I have been told by more than a few that I could easily be the poster-child for the infliction.  Point in case when, many years ago, a few of my softball teammates stopped at my home and rightfully accused me waxing my weed eater! Wikipedia:  “The term anal retentive, often abbreviated to anal, is used to describe a person who pays such attention to detail that it becomes an obsession and may be an annoyance to others.  ... continue reading...

I Should Be Committed – June (Month One)

On June 23rd, we posted an article suggesting a new, holistic approach to improving the social, physical and mechanical components of my golfing journey (see “Committed”). Month One of the new, holistic approach (June) resulted in seventeen trips to the gym, sixteen trips to the range and eleven trips to the golf course (total of seven rounds), having played with “others” on five of those eleven occasions.  Please feel free to review the attached spreadsheet (June Results) with June’s ... continue reading...

Fella’s, Meet Jim!

“Fella’s, meet Jim.  Jim is a new member who joined our Friday Men’s Group for the first time this morning.  He has a 14.7 index, he played with new clubs and prior to this morning he had never played our back nine.  Based on his 14.7 Index, he was given 17 strokes.  He proceeded to shoot a 42 on the front and a cool 38 on the back for a total of 80, eight strokes over par…net 63!  We’re sooooo glad to have you, welcome to the Club and our Friday Men’s Group!” Tony ... continue reading...
