I apologize once again for drifting away from golf related themes/stories however there are certain situations/circumstances that necessitate the “drift”!
At my advanced age, it is increasingly difficult to find meaningful, thoughtful, even pragmatic gifts for my wife that fit within the constraints of our rather meager Christmas budget.
My strategy is pretty simple. I attempt to pay attention during the year; listening and accumulating potential clues/ideas. Inevitably, without accumulating any potential clues/ideas, I find myself in a mad scramble weeks before the big day.
This year, I was in relatively good shape by the 20th of December. With a few days to go, I made the decision to add one final meaningful/thoughtful gift to put a ribbon on my 2023 Christmas shopping.
On Friday morning, after meticulously grooming greenside bunkers, I headed off to Walgreens in an attempt to turn a nostalgic phone photograph into a 4 x 6 hard copy print. Simple enough, right!
Recognizing I was way out of my league technologically, I immediately searched for assistance from anyone wearing anything that closely resembled a red smock. Upon engagement, I was directed to an intimidating “self-service” kiosk along the front wall of the store. At that very moment, I was quite confident I had absolutely nothing to be confident about! I settled in, took a deep breath, mopped the sweat off my brow and began to rifle through the tutorial. After a solid ten minutes, with a line of inpatient Walgreens kiosk customers breathing down my neck, I received confirmation that my 4 x 6 order was complete and the print would be processed and available in two-hours.
Note: I have had a hole-in-one (no, no kidding) and I was accepted as a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz. Those life changing events were pale in comparison to the level of pride/accomplishment I felt as I exited Walgreens in PineCroft Plaza!
Wanting to make the best use of my two-hour window, I made a bee-line to Maxie’s. After a few beers and many more chuckles, I headed back to secure my 4 x 6 print. Unfortunately; due to an equipment failure, I was asked to return to the store the following day to finalize the transaction.
I arrived at Walgreens at 10:15 on Saturday morning. I patiently waited my turn in the queue. I was called to the counter and was greeted by a very polite and enthusiastic Walgreens employee who kindly handed me an appropriately sized envelope which housed my 4 X 6 print. I exited the store, hopped into my Jeep and confidently headed home to frame and wrap my wife’s final present.
Merry Christmas honey!
