I met Rick in the Pro Shop at World Woods Golf Club, where we worked together, “Behind the Counter,” plying funds from unsuspecting golfers.
Rick served in the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas, from October 1976 until June 1980. Following his military career, he spent twenty-five years with the Lake County (Indiana) Police Department and retired as a Lieutenant, leading the Departments Aviation Division.
Rick fought a courageous battle against cancer. He dealt with the realities of his illness head on, oft times using humor and sarcasm to ease the pain. His spirit and faith were inspiring. Rick was a very good man and as you can see by his steamer trunk of a golf bag, he loved his golf!
Over the weekend, when I reflect on the significance of Independence Day, I plan on thinking about and thanking Rick for his service to our country and his service to his community.
Happy Fourth of July!
