Recently, I was visiting with my brother, sharing a few Smithwick’s after a marginal round of golf. During our conversation, John mentioned a course in Fort Myers, Florida named Fiddlesticks Country Club. I chuckled, reflected for a moment and commented that “Fiddlesticks Country Club” is an amazing name for a golf course!
Our conversation got me thinking about other great golf course names within the United States. It seems I have an affinity for Club names that start with “Old” and end with “Stick”! It is a pity the founding fathers of the Club in Fort Myers didn’t have the foresight to name their property “Old Fiddlesticks”!

My own thought on the fiddlesticks name was that it was a replacement word used instead of using fowl language on a few bad shots. Oh fiddlesticks would be used instead of oh _ _ _ _ or son of a b. Just thinking that’s all.
