Trackman

I was nosing around the Trackman website, attempting to gain an understanding of the twenty-three individual metrics from a recent hour long session with Terry Hanson of the Florida Golf Performance Center in Sarasota, Florida.  What I do know, after leaving the Performance Center, is that Trackman (and its competitors) has eliminated any form of guesswork; the information is instantaneous and the data indisputable.  I also learned that, “Club Face”, “Angle of Attack” and “Club Path” are the priorities.

The Trackman site is packed with interesting videos and information including PGA and LPGA Tour Averages.  Suffice it to say, all of the information is way over my head however one swing metric made absolutely no sense to me.  I was convinced there was an issue with the “Maximum Height” data, only to find out a couple of hours later (after a quick consult with Francis) that once again, I had no clue!

Tour Averages (Maximum Height)

PGA Tour LPGA Tour
Driver: 32 yds 25 yds
3 Wood: 30 yds 23 yds
5 Wood: 31 yds 26 yds
Hybrid: 29 yds 25 yds
3 Iron: 27 yds 24 yds
4 Iron: 28 yds 23 yds
5 Iron: 31 yds 25 yds
6 Iron: 30 yds 25 yds
7 Iron: 32 yds 26 yds
8 Iron: 31 yds 25 yds
9 Iron: 30 yds 26 yds
Pitching Wedge: 29 yds 23 yds

Conclusion:

Each club in a PGA Tour player’s bag generates essentially the same height (five yard differential).

Each club in a LPGA Tour player’s bag generates essentially the same height (three yard differential).

I believe the reason for my confusion is based on the trajectory of my current four-iron;  more like a bullet leaving the barrel of a Smith and Wesson 30-06, traveling a 100-yard distance on a shooting range!
