When things aren’t going well, multiple swing thoughts only serve to make things so much worse. One thing is for certain, performance is affected by confidence. When there is little, or no, confidence there is an all-consuming search to find an answer(s) to the problem(s). When things are going well, there are fewer questions thus less emphasis on swing thoughts. Seems simple enough; have confidence in your swing and think less. RIGHT!
I keep a notebook in my car and a small pad in my golf bag. The notebook has multiple pages of notes and many loose pages of articles and emails on various aspects of “the swing”. My notepad has one page of notes (has to be a quick read in the midst of a crisis). The contents of both are as follows:
Notebook:
• Bar arm/load up
• Pause
• Stay back / Don’t sway
• Use your back muscles
• Show your belt buckle to the target
• Soft hands
• Putter…long putt/claw…short put/cross hands
• Sand…face of club to the sky/open stance/club to follow stance/strike 3” back
• Short pitch (club close to the ground)…club path a bit inside/soft hands/stay back/bar arm/delayed/pause (sound familiar)/BALL BACK IN STANCE ( thank you John and Dave)/keep club face open
• Hybrid…be patient / very slow to the ball
• Driver…hold it a bit higher / for a draw strike it at 7:00/8:00…inside club path/don’t let club go away (out)/left shoulder higher than right
• Aim for the middle of the green
• 4 iron / 5 iron = more turn
• RELAX! Have fun! You’re with friends! It’s a game! SLOW DOWN!!!
Notepad:
• Soft hands
• Stay back
• Bar arm
• Pause
• Slow down
It is amazing I can make contact with all of these thoughts going through my noggin, not to mention I am just not that smart to begin with!
What is going through your head the seconds before you pull the trigger?
Thank you for following Bad Golf Guy.
The back nine can only get better!
